National Clubs
Yahoo Groups - There are numerous Yahoo Groups out there that
provide informative information and discussions about Shibas. We rely on
the following:
- nw_shibas - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nw_shibas/
This is my own group and has open membership and posting. This group
focuses on rescue for the Northwest by building a stronger network of
volunteers and consists of breeders, rescue coordinators, and new
Shiba owners, sharing information.
- ShibaSports - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ShibaSports/
Another great sports group that has open posting after membership is
approved and is a good resource for Shiba discussions about challenging
sports and activities.

This website has everything you could ever want to know about Shiba sports.
Superior Diet Recommendations
- We strongly belief that a superior natural diet will add years to your pet’s life,
regardless of the breed. Preservatives, additives and chemicals are a major flaw in
today’s market and rob us from living life to the fullest. We highly recommend
PawsitivelyCatered! Jan Goetz is a Shiba owner and volunteer and we personally
know her. She strives to improve the quality of life for our furry family members and
has seen dramatic health improvements because of it!
Other recommendations include Wellness Chicken or White Fish formulas, Merrick Turducken or Grammy Pot Pie, Orijen Adult, and Karma Organic.
Lost Shiba -
Our Shibas have snuck out the front door, under our
legs and we chased them as far as we could and once they tired out they
would come to us, within distance, probably 20 minutes later. They will
run you into the ground with their new-found freedom! Someone always snags
a cheese stick and we offer it as a reward for coming to us and winning
the game! We don't punish them because they will not come to us again if we
use negative discipline. Of course after that, we had a nice steel heavy
screen door installed! BUT if you have a new Shiba or a foster dog then
they won't know their surroundings and can travel far, trying to make it
back to their last home. In this case you should do the following:
- Immediately post the information about the dog on the website of all
shelters surrounding you. Check with them every few days.
- Make up posters with a good picture and post them everywhere (pet
stores, street corners, parks, etc). I think we posted 100 posters
before we were done.
- Place an ad in the newspaper listing a reward involved but never
list a price because this encourages the greed in people to shine
through!
- Form a search party and comb through each and every block every day.
Do not give up because the dog is probably circling in the area and
if so, you will get calls that may lead you to them.
Most dogs are eventually found with the diligence of their owner and
this is why it's so very important to have updated license information and
a micro-chipped dog!
Travel Websites - I have found wonderful properties to stay at with
up to four dogs. Summertime, we travel with our "pack", and have found places
to stay using these two websites. My gang just loves the beach, and we take
them quite often!
